Well well well…you learn something new every day. We just did a Google search for the Vibratex Pixie and the first search result came up at Drugstore.com. Are we the only ones who didn’t know they were selling sex toys??
On somewhat of a side note, this toy looks pretty incredible; watch this video to see how the Pixie and other toys like The Cone do the trick. The Pixie is a brilliant idea. If you’ve ever used it, make a video and tell us how it works.

We’ve just watched the new Ricki Lake-produced documentary, The Business of Being Born. Wow. This is a must-see for women, especially those who are ever considering having a child. You may ask, why is Sex-Lift blogging about a movie about having babies? To that we answer, 1) how do you think women get pregnant in the first place, and 2) childbirth is wholly related to female reproductive health.
The film delves into the myriad problems women may be faced with when giving birth in a hospital. Going into the film, we had assumed that home births are riskier than hospital births. Coming out, our opinion had changed. We hadn’t previously considered the business standpoint of hospitals - meaning that when it comes down to it, they are around to make money and don’t want women lying around in labor for longer than necessary. If a birth isn’t moving along as quickly as the hospital would like (aka, have your baby and get the hell out!), the woman may be given drugs to induce contractions, which are more painful due to the drugs and can put stress on the baby, leading to the potential need for a C-section. C-section rates are currently higher than ever…and now it seems to make sense why.
The film points out that mother and infant mortality rates are lower in a number of other countries, and that in those countries, midwives are present at a substantially higher percentage of births than in the United States. A good deal of the film is spent following New York midwife Cara Muhlhahn as she assists in a number of home births. One of the most interesting things we learned from seeing home births was this: trying to push a baby out while lying down, which is how hospital births are conducted, is unnatural. It is actually much more natural to push the baby out while squatting. It was fascinating to watch women give birth in a way that seems so odd, yet at the same time knowing that this is how women gave birth for centuries before modern medicine began to take over.
We came away from this movie with our eyes opened to a totally “different” way of childbirthing. We imagine that most women don’t even consider home birth as an option; that they will have their babies in a hospital because that is what people do. Home birth is about educating yourself, and about empowering yourself to make your own decisions and do it YOUR way, not the hospital’s way.

We recently heard about a new vibrator called The Cone - and we’re intrigued. This sex toy looks like an inocuous, Pepto-Bismol-pink decorative piece, something you could leave sitting out on your coffee table and none would be the wiser. We wondered how exactly this vibe is supposed to work, so we wandered into our local sex toy shop, Babeland, to check it out in the flesh (so to speak).
The cone sits four and a half inches high and has SIXTEEN (yep - sixteen!) different settings. One of these sixteen is an “orgasm button” that shoots straight to the highest vibration intensity. We read in The Cone’s manual that there are a variety of ways they recommend using it - sitting on it, wrapping your legs around it, lying face down on it - the possibilities are endless. It’s not just for women, either - men can achieve pleasure from it too.
To us, The Cone sounds like the poor (wo)man’s version of the Sybian, popularized by Howard Stern and his merry band of sidekicks. We hear great things about the Sybian so we’re super curious about this Cone. We’re a bit reluctant to shell out the $100+ to try this vibe out, so if you’ve used it, we’d love to hear from you!

Porn is everywhere and user generated porn sites are becoming more and more popular for both viewers and people eager to show off their sexual prowess. However, in this context sexual acts are seen solely as erotic actions. Obviously this is what draws people to them, after all the main reason people watch porn is for some level of erotic pleasure. Unfortunately there is little to learn from porn and more often than not porn teaches both men and women the wrong way to approach sex. Porn can actually teach people to be less aware of their own body and their partner’s leading to stale, impersonal, degrading and sometimes even abusive sexual experiences.
The goal of Sex-Lift is to help channel the masses of people who want to talk about and show sex on video into an educational experience. As with many learning experiences, the hive mind of sexual experience will help people understand more about themselves and their partners. There is no one right way to have sex. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another.
There are already tons of people giving out sexual advice via video and we are lucky to have some of their expertise on our site. Information like How to Find the G-Spot on a Woman or How to Make a Male Masturbation Toy are very informative to both men and women.
In the coming months we hope to find more and more people who are interested in helping educate the world on what they like to do sexually, whether it be by themselves or with another. We are looking forward to seeing what people come up with.
