We recently viewed a mid-1990’s America Undercover documentary titled “Fetishes: Mistresses and Domination at Pandora’s Box”.  Director Nick Broomfield spent time at the famed Pandora’s Box domination service, speaking with the mistresses and eventually gaining access to  sessions with their well-heeled clients. It’s a fascinating peek into the world of BDSM which is so foreign to many, but all-encompassing for a few. The film delves a bit into the psychology behind both the mistresses and the clients’ urge to engage in these activities, as well as into the dangers associated with maintaining relationships outside of BDSM.

The film contains quite a bit of activities you might expect to take place - spanking, nipple pulling, humiliation, bondage, and slavish devotion to mistresses. One of the most fascinating things to us were the sociopolitical fetishes which involved degradation againt a client’s race or religions. One Jewish client wanted to be degraded in a 1940s Nazi scenario, and one African-American client wanted to be treated like a pre-Civil War slave.

Watching “Fetishes” is an interesting way to spend an hour and a half of your life. You can find a copy of the DVD at Amazon.com.
